Environmental accounting,
beyond carbon.

PI tracks your organisation's impact across all 10 planetary boundaries — from carbon to biodiversity, water, nitrogen, and beyond. Get TNFD-aligned environmental accounts, grounded in the Planetary Boundaries framework, without expensive consultants.

Ten fooprints, one ledger
Most sustainability tools give you a carbon number. PI gives you the full picture. Track biogenic GHGs, nitrogen, phosphorus, freshwater, biodiversity, air quality, ozone, waste, land use, and fossil carbon — all in one system, normalised against science-based planetary budgets.

With PI your footprint is always in context - so you can compare carbon to water to waste.
including:
  • Footprints across the Planetary Boundaries, tracked in a single system
  • Results in context, so your materiality is quantified and you can manage trade-offs
  • One tool for your organisation and products regardless of industry or geography
  • Using Planetary Accounting for Organisations, grounded in the Planetary Boundaries framework.

Set up in an afternoon. Run it yourself, forever.
Tell PI what your organisation does, and it will pre-select the activity cateroies that apply — e.g., electricity, fuel, travel, purchased goods, commuting, waste. Toggle on what's relevant, toggle off what isn't, and start recording. No blank-page anxiety. No scoping workshop. No consultant required.
including:
  • Industry-aware pre-selection of common activity categories
  • Step-by-step onboarding with progress tracking across every account
  • Bring in an accredited partner for setup, then run it in-house
  • Designed for sustainability and finance teams, not specialist consultants

Numbers you can defend
Record physical quantities — kWh, kilometres, kilograms — and attach the invoices, receipts, or CSVs that back them up. Evidence lives with the entry, not in a separate folder. Every number traces back through its source and impact factor to the activity that produced it, giving you a full audit trail from day one.
including:
  • Upload invoices, bills, receipts directly
  • Full resolution chain - journal entry to source to impact factors to result
  • Spend-based estimation when measured data isn't available yet
  • Audit-ready records from day one, not reconstructed at year-end

Business stays business. Science stays science
Your team records activities the way they actually happen — "Sarah's van, 452km." A sustainability expert matches that once, in the background, to the precise LCA source behind it. After that, no one has to translate. The business keeps thinking in invoices and operations. The methodology stays rigorous underneath — ready for TNFD disclosure, CSRD reporting, or third-party assurance.
including:
  • Record activities in plain business language — vehicles, suppliers, sites, invoices
  • Expert source-matching happens once, out of sight, and sticks
  • Full methodology rigour preserved for audit — without disrupting operations
  • Supports TNFD, CSRD, and GRI-aligned environmental disclosure

common questions
We’re here to answer your questions.
How long does setup take?
Chevron down icon
Most organisations complete guided setup in an afternoon. You can then run your environmental accounts alongside your bookkeeping — because it's largely the same data.

Do we need a sustainability consultant to get started?
Chevron down icon
No. PI pre-selects the activity categories most common to your industry, so you're not starting from a blank page. A sustainability expert is useful for set up, but the day-to-day recording is designed for finance and operations teams. Our accredited partners can handle setup if you need help — then you run it in-house indefinitely.

What does "guided setup" actually involve?
Chevron down icon
You tell PI what your organisation does. It pre-selects the activity categories that typically apply — electricity, fuel, travel, purchased goods, commuting, waste. You toggle on what's relevant, toggle off what isn't, and start recording. Progress tracking shows you what's complete and what's next across every account.

Can we import data from our existing systems?
Chevron down icon
Yes. Activity data can be imported from CSVs and common accounting exports. You can also drag and drop invoices, bills of materials, and other data sources and PI will scan and upload relevant datapoints.

What's the difference between a business user and a sustainability expert in PI?
Chevron down icon
The same activity, viewed through two different lenses. A business user enters "Mike's van, 452km" and sees results in those same terms. A sustainability expert, working in the background, matches that entry to the precise LCA source — large diesel passenger vehicle, EURO 5, regional fuel mix. The methodology lives in the expert view. The business user never has to think about it. No experts inhouse? Our accredited partneres can support as needed.

What do you mean by TNFD-Ready
Chevron down icon
The outputs of PI map to the core metrics of TNFD, so by the time you have completed your Planetary Accounts, you are well on your way for a full TNFD assessment. If you need help to get from your PI results to full TNFD reporting our partners can help.

What does % RDL mean?
Chevron down icon
Recommended Daily Limit, per full-time equivalent. Each planetary boundary has a total annual safe operating budget. Divide by the global population and by 365, and you get a per-person, per-day limit — the RDL. Expressing your organisation's impact as a percentage of that limit, normalised by headcount and reporting period, makes results comparable across organisations of different sizes, industries, and geographies.

What is the Planetary Accounting Framework?
Chevron down icon
A peer-reviewed methodology developed by Dr Kate Meyer (our CEO) and Professor Peter Newman that translates the Planetary Boundaries into quantified budgets applicable to products, organisations, and economies. It's stewarded by the Planetary Accounting Network, a New Zealand-based charitable trust.
